Bluehost Review 2026: Real Speed, Uptime and Renewal Costs

This Bluehost review answers three questions. How fast is it, how often does it go down, and what does it really cost after the first term?

The short version: Bluehost is fast in the US and very reliable. The catch is a renewal price that is 150% higher than the intro price on the cheapest plan.

Bluehost Review at a Glance

Bluehost has hosted websites since 2003 and is one of the hosts recommended by WordPress.org. It holds a 4.5 out of 5 score on Trustpilot from more than 31,000 reviews.

Bluehost Speed Test Results

Speed matters for rankings and sales. Google sets its “good” mark for Largest Contentful Paint at 2.5 seconds or less.

For hard numbers, we used the Themeisle long-term Bluehost test site. It is a real WordPress site that has been measured every month for years.

In the US, Bluehost averaged 0.69 seconds. The average for similar budget hosts in the same tracker was 1.2 seconds, so Bluehost was about 42% faster.

Outside the US the lead disappears. Bluehost matched the market average in Europe (1.29s against 1.21s) and in Asia (2.05s against 2.03s).

Bluehost also quotes a WPShout test from November 2025 that clocked 0.35 seconds in the US. Treat that as a best case, since it comes from Bluehost’s own sales page.

Bluehost lists data centers in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. There is no African data center, so Kenyan and Nigerian site owners should choose Europe.

Bluehost Uptime Results

Uptime is the share of time your site is online. Bluehost promises a 99.99% uptime SLA on shared hosting.

That promise allows roughly 53 minutes of downtime per year. A weaker 99.9% promise would allow almost 9 hours.

The Themeisle monitor recorded zero downtime across all three months. The average for comparable hosts in the same tracker was 99.78%, which works out to about 19 hours offline per year.

Bluehost Plans and Intro Pricing

Bluehost sells three main shared hosting plans. The prices below are for the 36 month term, taken from the Bluehost web hosting page in October 2026.

Starter is generous for the price. Ten websites and a staging site on an entry plan is rare at this level.

Business is the better buy if you run client sites or need phone support. It also adds a firewall and free domain privacy for the first year.

Bluehost Renewal Costs: The Real Price

This is where most buyers get caught. The intro price only applies to your first term, then the plan renews at the regular rate.

On Starter, your bill jumps from $143.64 to $359.64 for the same three years. That is an extra $216 for the exact same service.

Over six years, Starter costs $503.28 in hosting alone. That averages $6.99 per month, not the $3.99 on the banner.

Renewal price depends on your term

Shorter terms renew at higher rates. These Starter figures come from the official Bluehost renewal price list.

Paying monthly costs $72 more per year than the 36 month renewal. Always check the Renewal Center in your account before the term ends.

Extra Costs to Watch

Hosting is not the only line on the invoice. These items add up fast.

  • Domain renewal. The free domain lasts one year. A .com then renews at about $23.99 per year, which is 34% above the market average of $17.85 according to DomainOffer’s price tracker.
  • Domain privacy. Starter does not include it. Business and above include it free for the first year only.
  • Professional email. The free trial lasts one month. It then renews at $2.50 per month unless you cancel.
  • Refund deductions. If you cancel within 30 days and claimed the free domain, Bluehost deducts the domain fee from your refund.
  • Taxes. Listed prices exclude VAT and GST.

Ease of Use and Support

Bluehost is built for beginners. A setup wizard installs WordPress for you, and a custom dashboard handles backups, caching and security in one place.

Advanced users still get cPanel, SSH and WP-CLI. A free migration tool moves an existing WordPress site across without a developer.

Chat support runs 24/7 on every plan. Phone support is not included on Starter, so budget for Business if you want to call someone.

Support quality is fair for the price. Simple issues get solved quickly, while complex problems often need escalation.

Bluehost Pros and Cons

Who Should Use Bluehost?

Choose Bluehost if you are launching your first WordPress site, blog or small business page. It also suits freelancers who want several small sites on one cheap plan.

Skip Bluehost if you run a busy store or a high traffic blog. You should also look elsewhere if you hate long contracts or need the lowest renewal price.

Final Verdict: Is Bluehost Worth It in 2026?

Yes, for the right buyer. The speed and uptime numbers are better than most hosts at this price.

Just go in with open eyes on cost. Plan for $9.99 per month after the first term, plus about $24 per year for your domain.
